We are still in DESPERATE need of sound equipment!
Don't forget the change of dates! The performances will be on October 27 and 28. Actor call is 6:00, show starts at 7:00.
Students need to be spending time each night reviewing their songs and lines. Several songs will have to be cut if the students do not memorize them.
We are in crunch time so encourage your students to rehearse for you and to stay focused in class.

6th Grade Assignments
Progress Reports are being sent out this week and I wanted to give parents a brief run down about what they will see on these.
Journal Check 1, Animalia and Participation 1 are all from the previous part of the term.
New this time are the following assignments.
1. Theater History 1- the students spent a week writing and rehearsing a short scene using the information they learned about the English Renaissance Theater and the Ancient Greek Theater.
2. Participation 2- is a reflection of their effort when working with their group during the Theater History 1 project. The way I determined their grade had to do with how many times I had to correct them for being off task or if their group seemed to be having a hard time working.
3. Theater History 2- they took the notes that were given to them on their Theater History 1 project and given time to revise and rehearse the changes.
4. Participation 3- a reflection of their group work during the revision process.
5. Vocab Terms- These were completed earlier in the term but checked as part of their journal check this time. They must be in their journals to be given credit.
6. Journal Check 2- This includes twice weekly journal entries and the notes that have been given in class.
7. Reflection Paper- Each student was given time in class and a guide for how to write a reflection of their process for the Theater History Project. This is essential to their portfolio.

6th Grade
The students have performed their theater history projects once again with really great results!
For the rest of this week we will be covering Blocking and starting the rehearsal of their shows for November 5th. I will send home a calendar next week with their rehearsal schedule and specific deadlines for the students. This should be a really exciting time!

CHANGE OF DATES!
Parents of 8th Grade Students,
After discussing with some of the teachers I have decided to change the dates for School House Rocks. We will only be performing two nights on Monday, October, 27 and Tuesday, October 28. With this being one of the last weeks of the term I felt that it would be beneficial for the students to have time at home in the evenings to complete work on projects and other class assignments.
New Dates and Times
October 27th and 28th (Monday and Tuesday)
Student call is 6:00 and the show will begin at 7:00
Thank you for your understanding!

6th Grade
The 6th Graders performed their theater history project on Tuesday. They are now taking the notes that they received on the project and are revising their work. They will perform these same pieces again on Monday. It's part of the structure of this class to take notes and fine tune their performances, it is a critical skill we all must master.
Next week the students will learn blocking short hand and we will do a class reading from Dramatics Magazine on how to receive notes from a director with grace and understanding.
The following week we will start on our class productions. The performance will be on Wednesday, November 3 at 7:00. Students will need to be at the school no later than 6:15.

Volunteers Needed!
If you would like to be of service to the Theater Department here at ACMS there are many ways that we would love to have your help!
Here is are some areas that currently need some parent involvement.
* I am in need of a sound system for our fall musical. I need several hand held mics and at least two that we could mount on the stage to pick up voices. With that we obviously need speakers. Think you know someone that is in a band or something along those lines that is willing to help? PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP!
* I will need a parent to run either the sound or lighting for the fall musical. This would mean a commitment of a few rehearsals, a day show and 3 evening performances. I will be glad to train the parent so no experience needed!
* I need a parent to be in charge of concessions and house managing for the fall musical and the Related Arts Night at the end of October. Typically I have bought the food for the concessions and then had students sell it, but if a parent with a Sams or Costco card could purchase it I would still have the students sell it. I would like at least one parent to be there to watch the students and help get people seated.
There are many ways to help out, but these are the ones that are most pressing at the moment. If you think you would like to be apart of our team, please Email me.

6th Grade
The 6th Grade classes will be taking the information that they have learned over the past two weeks and turning it into a sketch that teaches and informs the class on the subject matter.
I am pasting the project guidelines below so you can see how the points will be laid out for this project.
Memorization 5 points
Articulation- Can I understand what you are saying? 5 points
Movement- Do you use the space and make interesting stage pictures? 5 points
Projection- Are you loud enough to be heard? 5 points
Participation- Did you use your time in class effectively? 5 points
Journal and written work- you will need to turn in a final draft of your script. 15 p
Information- Did you convey all information to your audience? Did you include Ancient Greece and the English Renaissance Theater? Did you include some of your vocabulary terms? 20 pts.
Presentation- Was your sketch entertaining and engaging? Did you keep your audience in mind when presenting your sketch? 20 pts.
Creativity- Were you creative in your presentation, performance and your script? 20 pts.
Directions: Take the information that you have gathered over the last two weeks, including your notes on Ancient Greece, the English Renaissance Theater and your vocabulary terms and create a sketch that informs the audiences about those time periods.
Ideas: These are just some ideas, be as creative as you can and original!
• Your team could be a team of scientist traveling back in time to these periods, have a couple of group members be citizens of that time.
• Your team could live in that time period and one or two members could be clueless about the theater.
If you have any questions regarding this project or anything else in class please feel free to contact me.
